When you search the web looking for properties, you’ll get the most accurate data about what’s available from a broker’s website than if you search using third-party web portals Trulia or Zillow, according to a study performed by the WAV Group and sponsored by Redfin. The study examined 11 major markets, including the Washington, DC metro area.
About 36% of the listings shown on Zillow or Trulia were no longer active on the local MLS where the listings originated. And about only 80% of active listings showed up on Zillow or Trulia, as opposed to 100% on the brokers’ sites that were included in the study. Listings also appear much more quickly on brokers’ sites, usually on the same day. On the third-party sites, it typically took a week or more for listings to appear.
